I've done it enough on other folks' sites that it's not such a big deal. Mildly annoying, but not as annoying as spammers on the blogs. So yeah. Do it. I DARE you. =) -j.

I noticed the spam wave as well. I had a growth of 2000 percent, that being more than 5000 spam comments in three days. I'm using Spam Karma for Wordpress, and not a single spam comment got through (I had to moderate only 3).
I'm basically against CAPTCHA, but it depends on how it is implemented. There are systems that won't let you post anything because it's so hard to identify the numbers and characters. Others are okay.

I've been using akismet on MT instead of SpamLookup. It's about 7 billion times more effective -- I think it's only let two or three comments through in a month and a half and I haven't had to rescue any from unjust junking.
Of course, you could just come join us on vox...

Yeah. Friggin' spammers. I turned off non-Typekey commenting on my old blog because it just wasn't worth it. Besides, nobody was commenting anyway. Vox so far seems to handle it pretty well, but I'm just waiting for the day when spammers start somehow getting accounts and spamming there too. What will they do? Delete the accounts and all the messages they left? Hmmm.
